ATM Resubmits Motion of No Confidence for Ramaphosa

December 09, 2021

By Umamah Bakharia

The African Transformation Movement has resubmitted a motion of no confidence for President Cyril Ramaphosa.

This comes after a ruling by the Supreme Court of Appeal last week, which set aside a decision by the previous speaker who rejected a request for a secret ballot in the motion. ATM cites gross incompetence and a dismal economic outlook under Ramaphosa as the motivating factor for resubmitting a motion of no confidence.

Political analyst, Dr Ntsikelelo Breakfast breaks down the case to Radio Islam.

According to Dr Breakfast, ATM is a brainchild of the Zuma fraction, they broke away from the ANC because they hold a grudge.

In he’s opinion, the grudge is against ANC president but ATM has argued that the ANC was captured by white monopoly capitals and that the ANC was no longer pursuing transformation.

ATM spokesperson Sibusiso Mncwabe confirmed that his party has resubmitted the motion following the SCA ruling.

“There is thorough consideration the court took into consideration when granting the matter to our favour,” Mncwabe said.

In an email sent to Mapisa-Nqakula, party leader Vuyo Zungula requested that they should reconsider placing the motion of no confidence against the president without any delay.

Zungula said since Ramaphosa took the reins irregular expenditure in government and state-owned entities (SOEs) increased to R61.35 billion in the 2018/2019 audit period, from R50.1 billion in the previous year and SOEs continue to collapse, without anyone being held accountable for this gross behaviour.

He also said the president misled the nation about load shedding when he promised that it would be a thing of the past.

“This motion of confidence will not take off the ground and fly [and] it is not put forward in good faith,” says Dr Breakfast.
