Sudanese start new anti-coup protests

November 18, 2021

On Wednesday afternoon, thousands of people gathered in scattered protests across Khartoum against a military takeover.

At the same time, some reports have emerged that security forces had begun firing tear gas to disperse protesters. Reports are emerging that phone lines inside of Sudan have been cut.

The local resistance committees are calling for the complete handover of Sudan to civilian authorities and for the October coup leaders to be tried in court.

Since October, mobile internet services have been suspended since the military took over. So far in the last week, seven people have been reported to have been killed during the protest.

In 2019 people took to the streets to topple former leader Omar al-Bashir.
