Saudi Arabia: Jazan Airport Targeted in Drone Attacks

October 09, 2021

10 people were reportedly injured when an airport in Jazan, Saudi Arabia came under attack.  According to Al Jazeera, Friday evening’s attacks had targeted the King Abdullah Airport, near the border with Yemen.

The airport’s windows were shattered when the first projectile, fired from a drone, made impact, injuring six Saudis, three Bangladeshi nationals and one Sudanese. While five of the victims reportedly suffered minor injuries, the condition of the remaining injured is not as yet known.

Al Jazeera reports that a second drone, also carrying explosives, was intercepted early on Saturday.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, an explosives-laden drone reported to have been targeting Saudi Arabia’s Abha airport was intercepted. Four workers were, nevertheless, wounded. The same airport had been hit in August, wounding eight people and causing damage to a civilian aircraft.

Yemen’s Houthi forces are suspected to have been behind the drone attacks.
