Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo has applied for a fourth extension on his now R1 billion enquiry into the State Capture. The Commission seeks to be given until the 31st of December to finalise its report to be handed over to President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Ronald Lamola, Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, initially objected, saying that Zondo’s requested extension would cause financial repercussions for the department.
The High Court in Pretoria on Wednesday heard the Zondo Commission’s application for extension.
Radio Islam spoke to Stephanie Fick, OUTA’s Head of Legal Affairs; she believed the court would approve the application, mainly as the sheer number of cases, witness testimony and paperwork. She further stated that the Justice Minister was justified in his concerns regarding an extension as the budget for the Commission was capped at R15 million, and no extra funding was allocated.
