Residents in the Harry Gwala Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal finally have access to running water after 27 years, as the province unveils its water master plan.

Premier Sihle Zikalala, accompanied by CoGTA MEC Sipho Hlomuka, led the provincial government to a rural region in Umzimkhulu to announce the province’s master water plan.

The plan, according to Zikalala, was part of the province’s emergency water provision, which included boreholes and static tanks in specific municipalities as a short-term solution.

“Our government’s dedication to create better communities through visible, demonstrable, and measurable delivery is exemplified by our water master plan, which is one of the clearest examples of that commitment.”

“This Provincial Water Master Plan lays out all aspects of that requirement and will be a test of our objective to create a capable developmental state that meets the demands of our people in the delivery of high-quality, long-term services.”

Zikalala says that this Provincial Water Master Plan lays out all aspects of that requirement and will be a test to create a capable developmental state that meets the people’s demands in delivering high-quality, long-term services.

“While the government is required to support the development of water resources and infrastructure, we feel that business can play an important role in ensuring that all people in KwaZulu-Natal have access to safe drinking water,” the KZN premier said.

Vusi Khoza, EFF KZN Provincial Chairperson, said the ANC has had over two decades to restore the basic necessities of its people but had failed miserably. According to DA Member of Parliament Haniff Hoosen, the ANC administration’s water proposal is an election gimmick.
