The case against six suspects arrested in the murder of Babita Deokaran has been postponed to the 13 September for a formal bail application.

The suspects aged between between 24 and 30 and are from KwaZulu-Natal made a brief appearance in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Monday.

They have been charged with murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and possession of unlicensed firearms ammunition.

Officials say charges against a seventh suspect have been provisionally withdrawn pending an investigation.

Deokaran a senior finance official in the Gauteng Health Department was gunned down just moments after returning from dropping her child off at school.

On Sunday, Gauteng Premier David Makhura told Radio Islam, he would make sure that there was justice for Deokaran.

“We have lost a very outstanding official and I want to say that our law enforcement teams are working, that’s why they arrested seven people out of the killing of Babita Deokaran, a senior official who was really doing great work of pushing back on corruption.”

Hawks spokesperson Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said more people are expected to be arrested for the murder.
