The Department of Correctional Services says it does not know when former President Jacob Zuma will be discharged from hospital.
Zuma was hospitalized for a routine check-up last week and is still currently in hospital following a surgical procedure on Saturday.
The former president is currently serving a 15-month jail term at the Estcourt Correctional Services Centre for contempt of court over his refusal to appear before the state capture commission of inquiry.
Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo says Zuma was scheduled for other procedures and does not know when he will be discharged.
“We cannot predict a date as he is currently receiving care from the practitioners. So as a department we cannot even put pressure on those doctors, we need to allow them space as is afforded in our act that inmates must be afforded the best care possible.”
Nxumalo has urged people to refrain from speculating on Zuma’s health.
