On the 30th of July, world-renowned international scholar Mufti Muhammed Taqi Usmani, criticized the Saudi Arabian government on Twitter using his official account.   He raised concern about recent developments and decisions taken by the government of Saudi Arabia. He tweeted in Urdu saying the following:

Translation:

“We have always praised Saudi Arabia for the manner in which they served the Haramain and Hujjaj. However, the news that is now coming through social media and direct sources is disturbing. This goes against Islam and the country of Abdul Aziz. The issues of concern are as follows:

  • Unveiled policewomen
  • Opening of shops at Salaah times
  • Restrictions on Hajj & Umrah
  • Denial of  ‘Ahaad Hadith’ – i.e.,  hadith that is narrated by a single narrator.

(This is the most contentious issue)

All these are signs that the country has changed direction. Therefore, scholars and laymen from the Muslim world are perturbed because they have a very close bond with the Haramain. Saudi Arabia should review these actions and reform.”
