ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba and his party are planning to sue President Cyril Ramaphosa and police minister Bheki Cele over the damage to property and widespread looting in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.

Mashaba was speaking to Radio Islam about ActionSA’s call to South Africans who were affected by the violence and looting in the country last month.

The former Johannesburg mayor wants people to share their stories and join the party’s class-action lawsuit against the African National Congress (ANC) and Ramaphosa with Mashaba announcing that over 200 businesses have so far joined ActionSA’s lawsuit.

Responding to Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuizen’s comment during an earlier interview on Radio Islam where he called ActionSA’s class action suit a “gimmick” Mashaba says South Africa is suffering.

“I don’t know if anyone would really take John Steenhuizen serious. I think the country has suffered, how can you call the destruction of the country’s infrastructure, people losing jobs. I am sure South Africa is aware the DA and the ANC have been partners for a long time, more especially the DA under Cyril Ramaphosa I’m sure John Steenhuizen must be looking for a cabinet position.”

Mashaba says ActionSA is aware that the current government is going to do everything possible to frustrate the party’s efforts in the class action suit to avoid them going to court.

“There is more than sufficient evidence that this violence was driven by ANC factional battles.”

Meanwhile, Mashaba says ActionSA was against the postponement of the elections and did everything to stop it, adding that the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) failed to discharge its responsibility to hold the local government elections.
