July 10, 2021

Faizel Patel – 10/07/2021

Law enforcement officials throughout KwaZulu-Natal are on high alert following volatile protest action.

Supporters of former President Jacob Zuma have intensified their protests in KwaZulu-Natal and the N3 Mooi River toll plaza blocking major roads and causing traffic congestion.

The protestors, who have  been staging demonstrations since Wednesday are opposing former president Jacob Zuma’s incarceration after he was found guilty of being in contempt of court.

It is understood that some of the protestors hijacked trucks and set them alight in the vicinity of the Mooi River toll plaza.

Speaking to Radio Islam, The N3 Toll Concession’s Tanya Dhoogra says law enforcement officials are on scene.

“At present the roadway in the vaccinate of the Moon River Toll Plaza remains closed. The vehicles that were set alight during last nights protest action are still burning. Law enforcement and emergency services are on the scene attending to the fires and the roadway will be reopened to traffic as soon as it is possible to do so. Motorists are advised to please continue to avoid the area for the moment.”

Dhoogra says law enforcement officials will be monitoring the area for any flareup of the protest and that the area remains calm.
