Pietermaritzburg and Durban shaken awake by tremor

Durban and Pietermaritzburg residents were shaken awake early this morning after reports of an earth tremor.

Many took to social media to share their experience, some questioning if they had indeed felt the rocking of earth.

According to Volcano Discovery, they received unconfirmed reports of a tremor approximately 34 km northeast of Pietermaritzburg at 04:01 am.

“Our monitoring service AllQuakes received reports of an earthquake in or near Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa at around 02:03 GMT. Unless confirmed by at least one national or international seismological agency, its status remains unconfirmed.

As yet, there are no details regarding the magnitude or depth of the earthquake.
