The Ficksburg Muslim community says its protest against the Israeli occupation of Palestine is not just about Islam, but also about humanity.

The residents of the small farming community held a march on Sunday in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

During the 11-day attack on Gaza, Israeli occupation forces killed at least 254 Palestinians including 66 children, while more than 1,900 others were wounded.

The Ficksburg Muslim Community’s Waseem Mohamed says Israel is oppressing the rights and civil liberties of Palestinians.

“Israel needs to stop this occupation of our Palestinian brothers and sisters land, it is totally illegal and this needs to end. We as South Africans understand the pain of the Palestinian people as we have faced similar situations during the apartheid era. Our for Fathers were oppressed and were not given the constitutional rights, and today Palestine faces the same issue.”

Mohamed says South Africans need to take it upon themselves to keep raising their voices against Israel.

“If we can start of by boycotting all Israeli products and its associate products we will be financially impacting them and by financially impacting them, the war crimes will not be supported.”

Mohamed says President Cyril Ramaphosa is a respected person in the Muslim community and they support him with the decision to stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine.
