Following Fridays  ‘ceasefire’ in Gaza, tens of thousands gathered for Jummuah at Masjid al-Aqsa on Friday to celebrate the victory over Israeli occupation forces.

The Palestine Information Network (PIN) reports there were chants of victory, and sweets handed out by some in celebration of the steadfastness and victory of the resistance.

However, PIN says the victory celebrations were marred by another attacked by Israeli soldiers.

“In the midst of this outpouring of joy, Israeli forces again began an attack on worshippers after Jummuah firing sound bombs and rubber bullets. There have been at least 20 reported injuries. Israeli Occupation police also arrested a number of young men soon after before releasing them.”

Pin says the latest Israeli assault is but an attempt to appear in control of developments after what is widely seen as a defeat of the Occupation onslaught on Gaza.

“It may be unlikely that there be a resumption of open hostilities in Gaza right now in the wake of these developments. However what these underscore is that Al-Aqsa remains in danger, and that despite the Occupation setbacks, illegal occupation continues, Apartheid continues and the Nakba continues.

Pin says unless Israel is held accountable for its crimes and the core injustices are not remedied, we are bound to see scenes like these recurring adding that it is up to each one of us to build on, and maintain the momentum of awareness from recent events and keep up the struggle to achieve comprehensive freedom.
