After eleven days of attacking and the relentless bombardment Gaza, killing scores of Palestinians, Israel has reportedly announced a ceasefire.

The Associated Press (AP) reports Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office announced the cease-fire on Thursday after a late-night meeting of his Security Cabinet.

It is believed the group had unanimously accepted an Egyptian proposal, though the sides were still determining exactly when it was to take effect.

According to AP, one member of the Security Cabinet said the cease-fire would take effect at 2 a.m, roughly three hours after the announcement.

A Hamas official said the declaration of a truce was a defeat for Netanyahu and “a victory to the Palestinian people.”

During the widespread destruction in the Gaza Strip, Israeli occupation forces had killed 232 Palestinians  including 65 children, 39 women 17 elderly people.

Some 1,900 others were also wounded due to the ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza.

On Wednesday African National Congress (ANC) stalwart Essop Pahad told Radio Islam the  state of Israel was built on a lie, has survived on a lie and continues to live on a lie while President Cyril Ramaphosa said: “the way Israel has been carrying on, the way they’ve been denying the Palestinians their rights, the way they’ve been bombing the area, the way they’ve been unleashing terror, one could quite easily characterize it as being an apartheid type of state.”

Last week while Palestinian resistance were defending Masjid Al Aqsa and firing rockets at Israeli for attacking Islam’s third holiest site, editor of Palestine Chronicle Dr. Ramzy Baroud said for the first time in the history of the Israeli occupation, it is no longer Israel alone that is making and playing by its own rules and from a geo-strategic perspective Israel is in a much weaker position than it had ever been before.
