The case involving alleged underworld figure Nafiz Modack and several co-accused, was postponed after the magistrate was shot and wounded at a carwash in Mfuleni.
A senior police officer with no links to the case was also shot and killed at the same time, while her three-year old grandchild survived.
Modack and his co-accused are facing 63 charges ranging from murder, attempted murder, corruption to money laundering involving Anti-Gang Unit commander Lieutenant-Colonel Charl Kinnear.
Speaking to Radio Islam Kinnear’s widow Nicolette says while the case has been thrown a “curve ball” they are glad the magistrate survived.
“It is difficult because you prepare yourself for a certain movement or we are going into a certain direction and often it doesn’t happen that way.”
Nicolette says they are not entirely satisfied with the way various investigations have unfolded.
“We are at a point where we are starting to look at independent commissions probably needing to take up certain investigations because we are stuck with that scenario of who is going to investigate who here.”
Nicolette say her family has been battling to come to terms with her husbands death.
