Israeli occupation forces have reportedly withdrawn to the periphery of Masjid al-Aqsa after leaving a trail of destruction and debris.

The Palestine Information Network (PIN) reports that worshippers and Awqaf staff are involved in a clean-up operation on Monday at the Masjid, Islam’s third holiest site after an attack by Israeli soldiers.

Pin says hundreds of Palestinians injured in the attack are receiving urgent medical care.

The attack by Israeli soldiers is the latest in days of the worst such disturbances in Jerusalem since 2017, fuelled by a years-long bid by Jewish settlers to take over nearby Palestinian homes in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem.

On Monday morning, Israeli soldiers fired tear gas and stun grenades at Palestinians gathered at the compound refusing them to exercise their right to worship at the masjid.

Pin says Zuhr salaah is expected to be performed in the Masjid Al-Aqsa on Monday afternoon.
