The African National Congress (ANC) says it notes the letter written by the Secretary General Ace Magashule to party president Cyril Ramaphosa.

Magashule has reportedly suspended Ramaphosa as president of the ANC after he himself was served with a suspension letter on Wednesday afternoon signed off by his deputy Jessie Duarte.

The ANC’s national executive committee (NEC) resolved on this matter last month with Magashule and others affected granted 30 days to step aside but refused to do so.

Magasgule refused to heed suspension and instead suspended Ramaphosa over his CR17 campaign funding.

In a statement, the ANC’s Pule Mabe says the decisions of the NEC and National Working Committee stand.

“The NEC will be meeting over the weekend and will accordingly respond to the Secretary General. The ANC request that the Secretary General respect the decisions of the NEC and subject himself to the discipline of the organization.”

Magashule is the most senior leader affected by the party’s 2017 step-aside resolution – which states that those facing corruption or serious criminal charges should step aside or face suspension
