Saudi Arabian authorities have released new photos that offer a never-before-seen close up view of the Hajre Aswad or Black Stone in the Ka’ba in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques captured the details of the Hajre Aswad with a new technique that uses stacked panoramic focus.

According to authorities, the Hajre Aswad was photographed for a total of seven hours to produce a single image with the highest resolution.

The images are up to 49,000 megapixels and took 50 hours to develop.

One of many aspirations of Muslims when they embark on the journey of hajj or umrah is to kiss the Hajre Aswad

However, many may not get the chance due to the large number of pilgrims, who visit the Haram in Makkah, Saudi Arabia every year,

The Hajre Aswad is set in a silver covering half a meter above the ground and is located at the eastern corner of the holy Ka’ba, the place where a pilgrim also begins the circumambulation of the House of Allah.

According to narrations, the Hajre Aswad descended directly from Jannah and was given to the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) by the angel Jibreel (AS).

In a hadeeth, Abis ibn Rabi’ah reported: Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA) came to the Hajre Aswad and he kissed it. Umar said, “Verily, I know you are only a stone with no power to harm or benefit me. Were it not that I saw the Prophet (SAW)  kiss you, I would not have kissed you.” – Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim.

Photo’s: Haramain Sharifain

Saudi authorities also released pictures Maqam-e-Ibrahim, or the Station of Ibrahim (AS).

Maqam Ibrahim is the stone that bears the imprint of where the Prophet Ibrahim  (AS) stood while building the holy Ka’ba when the walls became too high.

The stone is enshrined with a gold, silver, and glass frame to preserve the Ibrahim (AS) footprints and like the Hajre Aswad, narrations indicated that the stone descended from Jannah.
