Political analyst Dr Ralph Mathekga says there is huge concerns surrounding the burglary at the Parktown offices of the State Capture Commission.
Criminals broke into the offices on Saturday night with the thieves stealing various items, including laptops which may contain sensitive information related to the work of the State Capture Commission.
Investigations are underway with officials still trying to ascertain the extent of the theft.
Speaking to Radio Islam, Dr Mathekga says there is an urgent need for clarification on whether the robbery was just a common crime or a target specific burglary.
“It is because of this heightened concern that the authorities have to establish as soon as possible what this is. We have to know quickly if this is targeted or if this is just a common crime, it should be urgent to establish this.”
Dr Mathekga says there are questions surrounding the burglary.
“In my view, I am already questioning the political will to protect the integrity of those institutions including the commission because if you can break in and out, it compromise the investigation. It delays processes and therefore it ultimately affects the integrity of those institutions.”
Dr Mathekga says there was a presumption that a burglary would happen at the state capture considering the high profile witnesses and testimony that is being revealed at the hearings.
The Zondo Commission is expected to continue to hear testimony from oversight-related evidence from the Speaker of the National Assembly Thandi Modise on Monday.
