March 30, 2021

The two teenaged girls who had hijacked an Uber Eats driver last week in Washington, in the US, resulting in the man’s death, have been charged with murder and carjacking.

USA Today reports that 66-year-old Mohammad Anwar, died when the girls, ages 13 and 15, sped off in his car as he clung to the driver’s side with the door open. The car crashed seconds later.

The girls had been armed with a taser, and one of them had reportedly been involved in a similar incident in January.

Anwar, a Pakistani immigrant, had been out on a delivery at the time.

According to USA Today, graphic video posted to Twitter shows Anwar in a struggle with the suspects. The video, captured by a bystander, shows the encounter unfolding in just a minute and a half. It ends with Anwar’s Honda Accord flipped on its side after smashing into a raft of rails. The girls can be seen climbing out, and one of the girls can be heard saying that she had left her cell phone in the car, before making a dash back to the vehicle to retrieve it. A fatally injured Anwar can be seen lying motionless on the pavement.

Police said, “All lifesaving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.”A GoFundMe campaign, launched on behalf of Anwar’s family, has raised more than $700,000 to cover the costs of a funeral and to provide for his survivors. His family, said, “Although money won’t fill the gaping hole that his death has left in our family, it will help remove some of the stress and worry of daily living while we grieve and heal.”
