Large parts of  Lenasia, Eldorado Park and Fordsburg have been left without power on Monday evening.

It is understood the adverse weather conditions has caused the Orlando, Lenasia and Fordsburg substations to trip causing the power outage.

Areas affected by the power outage include Lenasia Extension 3 to 13 and Thembehlihle informal settlement, Eldorado Park and the Fordsburg area.

The City of Joburg’s PR Councillor Zarina Motala says technicians are working on restoring power.

“The current situation is the Fordsburg and Orlando substation the feeder boards tripped. Technicians have been dispatched to both these substations to try and restore. At this stage the estimated time of restoration (ETR), City Power is estimating in the next four hours, so we could say just past midnight because this is a huge problem we are facing with two substations.”

Motala says City Power has apologised for the inconvenience and asked residents to switch off all lights and appliances before power is restored adding that they can get updates via City Power’s Twitter handle.
