With concerns over a possible resurgence of infections over the upcoming Easter holidays and long weekend, acting Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni says President Cyril Ramphosa is expected to address the nation soon on what measures will be implemented to mitigate the spread of the virus in the country.
Ntshavheni was addressing the media following a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
Ntshavheni says the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) is considering plans on how to manage the Easter holidays.
“It’s not only the Easter holidays. You’ve got the Jewish pass over which is known as Pesach, you also have the Ramadan which will also follow immediately. The National Command Council is considering what measures that should be implemented during that period.”
Ntshavheni says it’s unclear what measure will be taken by the NCCC to stop the spread of the virus.
“The NCCC is meeting and considering the options, there are plans on the table that are being considered. When the time is right and the decision has been made, we all know as South Africans that the president will convene a family meeting and communicate those decisions.”
On Saturday, South Africa will mark exactly a year since the country entered the COVID-19 hard lockdown.
