Tensions were high at the state capture commission on Tuesday after advocate Dali Mpofu told Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan and his legal counsel advocate Michelle le Roux to “shut up.”
Gordhan was cross-examined by Mpofu, Tom Moyane’s lawyer at the state capture commission yesterday.
The commission heard hours of SARS-related testimony, including more of the strained relationship between Gordhan and Moyane.
During re-examination, le Roux asked Gordhan to give commission chair, Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, background on his credentials as an African National Congress (ANC) struggle veteran.
Mpofu then objected after Gordhan asked to make a brief comment.
“Chair, I’m on the floor. Really, I can’t stand this kind of behaviour. This cannot be happening for the third time. Miss le Roux must shut up when I am speaking”
The room and Gordhan chiming in with an exclamation of “yhoooo” were shocked at the use of the harsh comment prompting Mpofu pass another remark.
“You too Mr Gordhan…you also shut up.”
Zondo reminded Mpofu that he was the one in charge to which the fiery advocate retorted “Chair, maybe we must just leave because if we are not going to speak and allow interruptions.”
