68-year-old Pakistan premier, Imran Khan, has been infected with the coronavirus just two days after having been vaccinated. He is currently in self isolation. Khan had received a shot of the Sinopharm vaccine on Thursday.
Al Jazeera reports that Khan’s office said, “At this point, the prime minister’s office can only confirm that the honourable prime minister has tested positive for COVID-19 and has self-isolated, we will release more details in due course.”
Khan had attended a security conference in Islamabad, and had addressed it without wearing a mask, while there was a large number of people in attendance. On Friday, he attended another gathering to inaugurate a housing project for the poor.
According to numbers released on Saturday, almost 4000 people in Pakistan have tested positive in the last 24 hours. Al Jazeera reports this as the highest number of daily infections in the country since early July.
Vaccinations for the general public had been rolled out earlier this month in Pakistan , with front-line health workers having expressed concerns about the China produced Sinopharm vaccine.
