Energy expert Ted Blom says South Africans could possibly face stage six or even stage eight load shedding according to Eskom’s system outlook.

Eskom is under severe pressure after breakdowns at the Tutuka, Majuba, Kusile, Matimba and Duvha power stations.

This added to the breakdowns at the Kriel and Kendal power stations, which led to the current cycle of load shedding.

Speaking to Radio Islam, Blom says South Africa could see higher stages of load shedding from Eskom.

“When I first had a look at the system outlook, as soon as Eskom gets to twenty megawatts, it’s about half of its capacity with the ITP. Then twenty megawatts off the grid holds at least level six load shedding. I said that there’s a better than 50% chance of that hitting us and if they stuff it up like they did in the past, we could even hit level eight load shedding for the first time ever.”

Blom says South Africans are not getting the whole truth from the power utility.

“In their second last line of yesterday, they admitted to a load shedding possibility of twenty six days during winter which is right in front of us and then another thirty eight days during summer which is after June/July. The situation is not getting any better.”

Blom says South Africans need to take action against Eskom adding that he will be launching the “energy revolution.”

“I don’t want to let the cat out the bag, I’ve got a very reasonable proposition as to we the consumers can fight back and I’ll announced that on the 1st of April and it will not be an April fool’s joke, I promise you that.”

Blom agrees that Eskom may be employing a strategy where they may be exaggerating the level of load shedding that is actually required.
