Following the heavy downpours on Friday, Lenasia residents have been urged to visit the Avalon Cemetery to maintain some of the gravesites.
It’s understood a number of graves have sunk in due to the adverse weather conditions.
According Yusuf Bulbulia Advisory Services (YAB), persistent rain over the past few month has caused some damage to the burial section in Avalon Cemetery.
“On Friday the rain that came down has causes quite a bit of graves to sink in the Muslim area as well as the non-Muslim area. We normally do get groups of people to come and close the qabrs.”
However Bulbulia says with the COVID-19 level 3 lockdown, people should go to the cemetery in small numbers.
“Unfortunately due to the COVID lockdown, we don’t want to promote people coming in big groups. Therefore we haven’t organized an Avalon graveyard cleanup or fill the qabr, but we urge people on their individual capacity to check their family as well as their friends graves.”
Bulbulia says sand which has sponsored will be delivered this week to assist in the maintenance of the sunken gravesites.
