The Palestine Information Networks (PIN) Hafez Ebrahim Moosa says the International Criminal Court (ICC) ruling that it has jurisdiction over war crimes or atrocities committed in the Palestinian Territories, paving the way for a criminal investigation is expected to have huge implications on Israel.
Despite Israeli objections, Judges said their decision was based on jurisdictional rules in its founding documents and does not imply any attempt to determine statehood or legal borders.
Israel, which is not a member of the court, has rejected its jurisdiction.
Speaking to Radio Islam on Monday during the Palestine Report, Hafez Moosa says the Palestinians are elated by the ICC’s ruling.
“The implications of this are now that the Palestinians or the ICC would be able to judge on any kind of issues relating to the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, East Jerusalem, basically the occupied Palestinian territories. Understandably Palestinians are elated about this and there’s lots of optimism about this announcement.”
However, Hafez Moosa says there is an attitude of fightback from the Israeli’s.
“Netanyahu saying that ‘we will fight this perversion of justice with all our might.’ He obviously went to the response of saying ‘this is pure anti-Semitism.’ The United States also issuing a statement saying that it has serious concerns that Israel might be hauled before justice in this way.”
Hafez Moosa also touched on a story about thousands of Palestinians within Israeli state protest criminal violence and Bangladesh being accused of soliciting Israeli software to spy on its own citizens.
