The Imam of the Thohoyandou Masjid in Venda says local businessmen have made generous contributions to the place of worship after it was damaged by cyclone Eloise.

The cyclone battered the southern parts of Africa leaving at least fifteen people dead, scores injured and destroying crops and infrastructure.

It made landfall in Mozambique bringing rain and gale-force winds around 130km/h

Speaking to Radio Islam, Ml Ameer Patel says the effects of cyclone Eloise was devastating.

“There was heavy rain on this side and the heavy rain broke the boundary wall of the masjid and because of that the front door next to the mehrab, the glass was broken and all the water started coming in through that side. The rain was so heavy that we could not control it.”

Ml Patel says many people have opened their hearts and pockets to assist the masjid during this difficult time.

“The businessmen here have decided they will contribute whatever the loss and damages was in the masjid, maybe the carpet or whatever it is. I would like to say Jazak’Allah to Radio Islam, Jamiatul Ulama, Darul Uloom Zakariyya, Al-Imdaad. We have received calls from everywhere forth donations and assistance.”

Ml Patel says the rain has subsided and there is not expectation of any flooding.
