Freedom Under Law CEO Nicole Fritz says there isn’t a shred of evidence of any bias against former President Jacob Zuma by the State Capture Commission of Inquiry and the Judiciary.
Fritz was speaking to Radio Islam following Zuma’s decision to defy the Constitutional Court ruling saying he will not appear before the Zondo State Capture Commission of Inquiry.
Several opposition parties have already called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to start a process to stop Zuma and his family’s presidential perks.
Fritz has condemned Zuma’s statement saying that he has this time, gone too far.
“It’s unsurprising that we have seen former President Jacob Zuma play a series of evasive tricks in order to escape and evade having to appear before the commission. This ultimately is the ultimate outcome of the evasive tactics on the part of Mr Zuma.”
Fritz says the process of cancelling Zuma’s presidential perks will have to be investigated.
“This is a man who’s enjoyed the highest office our constitution can bestow, has enjoyed the greatest privileges it has to offer and now his wanting to say that this constitution, the highest law in the land is not applicable to him, that he should be above the law, that he is immune from its reach. For this example to be allowed to stand, that there is this man who believes he is above this highest law, that it should not apply to him, that would be the ultimate travesty.”
Fritz says the ultimate mechanism and sanction that must follow is that law must take its course and if Zuma fails to appear before the state capture commission as he is lawfully summonsed to do there must be another criminal complaint against him and he must be charged for contempt of the highest court.
