“Mass Murder” in the U.S

January 25, 2021

By Naadiya Adams

Described as the “largest mass shooting in decades” by authorities, it has left five people dead in state of Indiana in the U.S. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) received a 911 alert around 4am on Sunday.

Officers described “a juvenile male with apparent gunshot wounds,” on entry into the premises. Five bodies were then discovered, including a pregnant woman and her unborn child.

Authorities believe that there was more than one shooter.

“What happened this morning was not an act of simple gun violence…What happened this morning was a mass murder,” Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said during a press conference

“This does not appear to be a random act,” IMPD Sgt. Shane Foley said.

While it does not appear to be a random act, the motive remains unknown at this stage.

Forensic investigations are underway, but the IMPD has said no arrests have been made. The US Attorney’s office and FBI have been called in to assist in the investigation.

The horrendous incident, described by the chief as a “different kind of evil,” comes during a recent spate of gun violence in the city, which registered a grim record of 245 homicides in 2020, a 40 percent increase from the previous year.
