Three people in the Republic of Ireland broke the country’s stringent travel rules put in place to curb the spread of the coronavirus by traveling 50 miles (80km) to buy burgers. The BBC reports that in Ireland, the travel limit is now a tightly constricted three miles (5km).

The three were stopped on their trip from County Meath to Dublin by the Gardaí, the Irish police, and given an £89 (R1350) on-the-spot fine each.

According to the BBC there has been plenty of mirth surrounding the incident, with some headlines reading “Cheeky burgers” and “Do you want a virus with that, sir?”.

The Republic of Ireland is experiencing a surge in virus cases with one in every 67 people in the country testing positive in the past two weeks. Further, Ireland currently has the world’s highest number of new confirmed cases per million people. According to the BBC, 54% of new cases are people under the age of 45.

Further restrictions in Ireland include a ban on all household visits, and the closure of non-essential business.
