South Africa has lost another esteemed Islamic luminary and scholar following the passing of Mufti Yacoob Minty of Klerksdorp.

The esteemed Islamic scholar passed away on Tuesday.

Mufti Minty graduated in Darbel in India and completed his Iftha under Mufti Ismail Kacholi (RA).

Esteemed Islamic scholar Ml Obeidullah Boja says Mufti Minty was very active in the North West Muslim community.

Ml Boja says the passing of Mufti Minty is a huge loss to the Muslim community of South Africa.

“Truly a person who was a khalifah of Mufti Ahmed Khanpuri (DB). Hazrat Mufti Minty saab leaves a great gap that is there. His services to the community in Klerksdorp and in general his well known to all. May Allah accept his services and may Allah make it a means of his annajaat and his saviour as he goes in the next stages of his life in qabr and akhirat as well.”

Ml Obeidullah Boja says that as South Africans it is time that we start acknowledging our Ulama in our area.

“Many, many are passing away. In the last 24 hours, we had three of four Ulama that have gone onto the mercy of Allah. It’s important that we value, especially the Ulama, the Imams of our towns, our areas and the seniors that are there.”

Radio Islam has a special programme every Thursday from 8pm to 10pm to honour the esteemed Islamic scholars that have passed away in South Africa and across the globe, tune in as we pay tribute to these great luminaries.
