It has been a tough year for South Africans with the COVID-19 pandemic and stressful economic climate.

Many South Africans need a break and will be travelling to various destinations across the country.

With the price of air travel beyond the affordability of some, many South Africans will be driving to their holiday destinations this festive season and having a roadworthy vehicle is paramount in ensuring you stay safe on the road.

Speaking to Radio Islam, Field Manager for Isusu South Africa Luis Figueiredo shared important checks that must be done before you embark on that log trip including having emergency equipment and first aid kit.

“I would check to make sure the vehicles licence disk is valid. Check if the front and rear windscreen for any damages that would impair the drivers vision. Check the fluid levels for example on your engine and transmission oils.  Have the batter tested, make sure that it’s in good order. Check the vehicle lights making sure that they are all working. Check the vehicles wipers. Also very importantly is also the conditions and the pressure on the vehicles tyres.”

Figueiredo recommends that motorists consider a roadside assistance plan.

“It gives you peace of mind at any time. If anything goes wrong, you will have someone to reach out and its 24 hours seven days a week. If you do pick one out, I would recommend pick one that has a large national footprint to cover you.”

Figueiredo also touched on the impact excessive luggage has on the performance of the vehicle, vehicle breakdowns in remote areas among many other important advices that motorists should take into cognizance when embarking on a road trip.
