The Health Ministry says that another 4,173 COVID-19 infections were picked up over the past 24-hour cycle, pushing the number of known cases since the start of the outbreak to almost 800,000.

Sixty five more people have died in South Africa after contracting the coronavirus.

These latest fatalities bring the national death toll to 21,709.

The recovery rate is at 92.2%, meaning that so far, more than 734,305 people have recuperated.

A 10pm curfew and a partial ban on the sale of alcohol, that has been agreed to by some of the big liquor traders, were discussed as the National Command Council (NCCC) sat on Wednesday.

This is in response to a resurgence in COVID-19 infections in a number of hotspots in the country, including Nelson Mandela Bay and the Garden Route.
