As Donald Trump refused to conceded the loss of the US Elections and ensure a smooth transition to US President election Joe Biden, the Palestine Information Network’s (PIN) Hafez Ebrahim Moosa says an Israeli NGO has is concerned about the wait.
Ir Amim, an Israeli civil society organisation that tracks settlements in Jerusalem, warned that the next two months in the lead-up to the change in Washington “will be a critical period”.
The NGO reiterated concerns that settlement construction in Givat Hamatos would be a devastating blow to peace negotiations because it would cut east Jerusalem off from Bethlehem, disrupting the territorial continuity of a future Palestinian state.
Speaking to Radio Islam during the Palestine Report on Monday, Hafez Moosa says the NGO believes that Israel will attempt to exploit this time to advance moves that the incoming administration will potentially oppose.
“There are talk among certain analysts that although annexation is continuing in a very slow and steady fashion, there could be some sort of move on the one hand from the Israeli’s to try and accelerate annexation in these last days of the Trump administration and it’s a period of about two months before the inauguration.”
Hafez Moosa says the state department in the US may also make an announcement that will severely impact humanitarian organisations.
“The state department has prepared some sort of document wherein the plan or might plan to announce that certain major international human rights groups and the names that have been bandied out like Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International. They would declare these groups to be anti-semitic.”
Hafez Moosa also shared updates about extended visiting times for non-Muslims access to Masjid-Al-Aqsa and a 1980’s plot to assassinate Yasser Arafat has been uncovered.
