Television talk show host Faizal Sayed says it was shocking and embarrassing to the Muslim community after  crayfish tails were found in the back of a Muslim hearse in Gordon’s Bay.

No less than 5 441 smuggled crayfish tails were found in the back of the burial coach on Thursday.

A man has been charged after the crayfish tails valued at about R54 100 were found in a body bag inside the vehicle.

Sayed says while some may make light of the incident, the matter is serious as a Muslim burial vehicle was used to transport the crayfish.

“It is rather concerning that a vehicle is pulled off on the side of the road bearing the Kalimah on the side and snaps are taken at the crime scene. It’s rather concerning, that crayfish is transported in a canvas bag that is normally used to collect a body or a mayyit from the hospital and that could’ve been a diseased body or infected person and food is being transported inside there.”

Sayed says he is trying to determine who else may be  involved in the incident and what the details are surrounding the transportation of the crayfish in the Muslim burial coach.

“The Masjid Al-Muhajireen Wal-Ansar is saying where the hearse originated from the organisation and the burial service of Cathkin Islamic Burial Service who the hearse belongs to had put out a statement. I chatted to them and they saying that their systems says anyone could come borrow a hearse for the purpose of janaza and somebody had caught all of this on by borrowing that hearse.”

The Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) also released a statement calling upon those from the Muslim community who commit crimes whilst using religious symbols as a cover to their crimes to repent to Almighty Allah and refrain from acts of disobedience to Allah.

Sayed also touched on his recent investigations of Hajj fraud in South Africa involving hajj and umrah operators and travel agents.
