Israel carried out what has been described as the biggest demolition of Palestinian homes in a decade.

The Bedouin settlement of Khirbet Humsa in the Jordan Valley saw some 73 people, 41 of them children, left homeless when their homes were demolished.

The United Nations condemned the act as a grave breach of International law, while Israeli Military say the structures were built illegally.

Though Israeli officials claim they took down only 15 structures the UN says bulldozers took down 76 structures including homes, animal shelters, toilets and solar panels.

The UN’s Office for Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says Khirbet Humsa is one of 38 settlements situated in Israeli firing zones and are some of the most vulnerable communities on the West Bank.

The demolition is a breach of the Fourth Geneva Convention, an international law passed to protect civilians in military occupied territories.

Khirbet Humsa is situated in an area outside of Palestinian control as it is limited in the West Bank, while Israel hold overall control in the region.
