As the US elections heads for a nail-biting finish with many saying the race to the White House is too close to call, the president of the Bayan Claremont Islamic Graduate School says the Joe Biden camp who he was on the campaign trail with say they are still on track for what they were anticipating their pathway to victory is.
Jihad Turk and Independent political analyst Dr Dale McKinley were speaking to Radio Islam on Wednesday as Americans wait with bated breath to see who will be their next leader.
The “most important US election since 1945” has not been short of drama with US President Donald Trump who is vying for a second term in office coming under harsh criticism for his premature claims of victory well before all the votes were counted.
Trump delivered an extraordinary speech from the White House, in which he claimed that “we did win this election” despite neither candidate reaching the electoral vote threshold for victory.
He branded slow ballot tabulations in battleground states a “fraud” and said he would go to the Supreme Court to dispute the counting of votes.
Turk says the Biden camp is confident of victory in the US elections.
“They said they are still on track for what they were anticipating their pathway to victory is, namely through Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan in addition to all of the states that they anticipate winning again as they did in 2016 for the democrats during Hillary’s time. So they are still optimistic that they will come out victorious with the needed 270 electoral college votes.
Dr McKinely says while the US election is the most polarised in US history, the interest in the elections translates into what people voting.
“What will be interesting once everything is counted is the degree to which different factions of the American population voted; in other words, the African American community, the Hispanic community and so forth and that would be interesting to see to the degree to which the sections of the populations voted and how they voted.
Earlier both Twitter and Facebook chose to label a message identical on both platforms from Trump reading, “We are up BIG, but they are trying to STEAL the Election. We will never let them do it. Votes cannot be cast after the Polls are closed!”
Twitter also placed sharing restrictions on the tweet.
