More than fifty thousand people have taken part in the biggest demonstration yet in Bangladesh over French President Emmanuel Macron’s defence of the rights to publish cartoons of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Monday’s rally which started at Bangladesh’s biggest Masjid was stopped from getting close to the French embassy where security has been stepped up amid mounting tensions over Macron’s comments.
Demonstrators carried effigy’s of Macron caricatures in a fake coffin for the French president.
Demonstrations have been held in many Muslim majority countries after Macron defended Frances freedom of speech laws in the wake of the killing of French teacher Samuel Paty who had shown caricatures of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to his class.
