With about a week before the third phase of Umrah resumption sets in, the Hajj and Umrah Ministry says it has issued more than 650,000 electronic Umrah permits to pilgrims wanting to perform Umrah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The phased in approach of the resumption of Umrah allows for up to 20,000 pilgrims a day to perform Umrah amid strict social distancing measures aiming at curbing the spread of COVID-19.
According to Arab News, undersecretary at the Hajj and Umrah Ministry Dr. Amr Al-Maddah, says, the Eatmarna app had seen more than 2.5 million installations and 1.2 million registrations.
In the third phase beginning on 1 November, International pilgrims will be allowed to perform Umrah with a full capacity of 20,000 pilgrims and 60,000 worshippers a day.
The fourth stage will see the Haram return to normal, when all aspects of COVID-19 risks have diminished.
