The investigating officer, Gerhardus Myburgh in the Brendin Horner murder case told the Senekal Magistrates Court that there is no physical evidence that links the accused to the murder of the farm manager. Myburgh said DNA test results of samples taken from the accused and evidence found in his shack were still outstanding.

The lawyers representing murder accused Sekwetje Mahlamba and Sekola Matlaletsa have told the court that murder allegations against their clients are baseless and that his clients had not committed the murder.

The state is opposing bail on the grounds that if the two are released on bail it would cause a public outcry.

Myburgh has also told the court that he is of the view that the accused might interfere with witnesses if they are released.

Earlier, the court heard how the man accused of threatening witnesses in the Brendin Horner case was related to one of the accused.

On Tuesday morning, the investigating officer in the matter told the court that one of the witnesses would have to go into protection following the threats.

The brutal murder of 21-year-old farm manager Brendin Horner has stirred emotions in the farming community and sparked racial tension in the country.

Defence lawyer  Machini Motloung says he has trust in the country’s law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order.
