The Secretary General of Jamiatul Ulama South Africa Ml Ebrahim Bham says Marhoom Ml Dr. Adil Khan, the principal of Jamia Farooqia seminary had a loving and magnetic personality.
Ml Dr Khan, a renowned religious scholar was killed in a brazen gun attack in Karachi in Pakistan on Saturday.
It’s understood the car Ml Dr Adil was travelling in stopped near a shopping centre in Shah Faisal Colony when two gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on the vehicle and fled the scene.
Ml Dr Adil and his driver sustained multiple bullet wounds and were transported to the Liaquat National Hospital where they were both declared deceased.
Ml Bham says Ml Dr Khan was very articulate in English and also very well travelled.
“Ml Adil has had this tremendous loving personality which many people in South Africa will identify with if they would recall his visit in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
Ml Bham says the targeting of the Ulama in Pakistan is a very sad situation.
“We don’t know what the situation is. I have tried to read, many times there is this sectarian divide between the Sunni’s and the Shia’s and many times people have said that that is the reason, that the sectarian conflict is the reason with regards to the killings. I have noticed that Imran Khan the Prime Minister had said that the enemies of Pakistan have taken advantage of the sectarian divide to kill Ulama from both sides and pass it off as one doing it against the other. Allah knows.”
Ml Bham says Ml Dr Khan loved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions (PBUT).
“I think his legacy would be love for the Prophet (SAW), love for the Sahaba (RA) which was ingrained in him and something that he spoke very passionately about.”
Ml Bham says the incident is very tragic, adding that we have to be careful in creating such a culture of hatred that people can take advantage and use it against anybody.
