It has been a rough year for many, many more people are job hunting this year compared to previous years. On social media, there have been some adverts coming up, whereby people are trying to find out if a company is legit or not.

Scammers thrive when people become desperate, the job opportunity has provided them with ways to make a quick buck. Like any professional, scammers must constantly upskill themselves to find new opportunity to take people for a ride.

How can you tell if it is a scam or not?

  1. You must meet at a place that is not the company’s office.
  • My suggestion with this is that you Google the address as most of the time you are asked to meet at a location that is a rent by the hour office or a person’s home.
  1. You are asked to pay money
  • You are asked to pay an interview fee or admin fee as it is called.
  • Never pay to apply for a job or for the background checks that are needed.
  1. Never give your bank details.
  • Bank details are only to be given when you have a contract of employment in front of you and you are happy with the offer. You will never be asked for personal details or bank account before you even arrive for the interview.
  1. The advert for the job is usually vague and have no minimum requirements.
  • The advert will have very little information that would make it seem as if anyone can apply.
  1. If you are worried about the interview being scam.
  • Google all you can about the company you can enter the email address in the search bar, and it will let you know if the email address has been linked to scams.

You have a wealth of resources at your fingertips, always Google to ensure you know what you are getting yourself into.

Visit trusted job sites or recruitment agencies if you need work.

Remember if it is too good to be true, it may just be that.
