The Energy Department has announced that the price of 93 grade octane of petrol will decrease by 23 cents per litre and 95 grade octane by 32 cents per litre from Wednesday, 7 October.
The prices of different grades of diesel go down by 90 cents (0.05% sulphur) & 93 cents (0.005% sulphur) per litre while illuminating paraffin will decrease by 76 cents per litre.
The price of LP gas decreases by 20 cents per kg.
The Energy Department says the main reasons for the fuel price adjustments are due to contribution of the Rand/US Dollar exchange rate.
“The Rand appreciated, on average, against the US Dollar (from 17.28 to 16.72 Rand per USD) during the period under review when compared to the previous one. . This led to lower contributions to the Basic Fuel Prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin. During the period under review, the average Brent Crude oil price also decreased from 44.78 USD/barrel to 40.82 USD/barrel.”
South Africa’s fuel prices are adjusted on a monthly basis, informed by international and local factors.
