The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 618,286.
This is an increase of 2,585 from Wednesday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 126 bringing the total to 13,628.
Gauteng has the most infections with 208,156 followed by Western Cape at 105,273, Eastern Cape at 85,625, KwaZulu-Natal 111,585, Free State 36,419, North West 24,805, Mpumalanga 23,677, Limpopo 12,867, Northern Cape 9,829 and unallocated infections 50.
The total number of recoveries to date is 531,338 which translates to a recovery rate of 86%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,617,982 this is an increase of 19,009 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably we report 126 more COVID-19 related deaths: 48 from KwaZulu Natal, 33 from Gauteng, 25 from Eastern Cape and 20 from Western Cape. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths to 13,628.
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
