SA COVID-19 Infections Rise to 587,345, Deaths at 11,839

The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 587,345.

This is an increase of 3,692 from Saturday’s announcement.

The number of deaths has also increased by 162 bringing the total to 11,839.

Gauteng has the most infections with 199,635 followed by Western Cape at 102,449, Eastern Cape at 84,006, KwaZulu-Natal 105,383, Free State 31,870, North West 23,250, Mpumalanga 21,289, Limpopo 11,573, Northern Cape 7,840 and unallocated infections 50.

The total number of recoveries to date is 472,377 which translates to a recovery rate of 80%.

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,400,638 this is an increase of 22,609 which were done in the last 24 hours.

“Regrettably we report 162 new COVID-19 related deaths: 70 from Eastern Cape, 27 from Gauteng, 21 from KwaZulu Natal, 6 from Free State, 18 from North West and 20 from Western Cape. This brings the cumulative total of reported COVID-19 related deaths to 11,839.

Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
