The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 568,919.
This is an increase of 2,810 from Tuesday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 259 bringing the total to 11,010.
Gauteng has the most infections with 194,685 followed by Western Cape at 100,536, Eastern Cape at 82,779, KwaZulu-Natal 101,499, Free State 29,578, North West 22,205, Mpumalanga 19,755, Limpopo 10,875, Northern Cape 6,957 and unallocated infections 50.
The total number of recoveries to date is 432,029 which translates to a recovery rate of 75,9%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,295,434 this is an increase of 16,457 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably we report 259 new COVID-19 related deaths: 46 from Eastern Cape, 108 from Gauteng, 74 from KwaZulu Natal, 31 from Western Cape. This brings the cumulative total of reported COVID-19 related deaths to 11,010.
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
