The Basic Education Department has announced that the 2020 May/June examinations will run concurrently with the October/November exams.

Schools were closed on 18 March and learners were not able to write the June mid-year exams due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown

In a statement, the department says the combined June and November exams will commence officially on 5 November and terminate on 15 November.

The department says the late commencement of the final Grade 12 examinations will allow schools and learners adequate time to cover the curriculum and also to ensure that ample time is allocated for revision of the syllabus.

“Candidates are once again reminded this this is a combined examination which implies that all candidates that were scheduled to write the Senior Certificate Examination in May/June 2020 and have already registered, will be allowed to write this examination.”

The department says more than 1,1 million students are expected to sit for the 2020 combined matric exam and each learner will receive an admission letter by the end of September listing the subjects for which they have registered and the centre they will be writing.

The department says the results of the 2020 Grade 12 examinations will be released on 23 February 2021
