Saaberie Chishty Society has established an additional ghusal khana (ablution facility) at the Lenasia Avalon cemetery to cope with the rising number of deaths including from COVID-19.

In a video post, Saaberie Chishty says the months of June and July have seen an increase of 239 burials that was performed by the organization, 93 of which were COVID-19 related.

The surge in the number of burials placed Saaberie Chishty under pressure and in an attempt to cope with the increase, an old abandoned ghusal khana at Avalon was revamped and reopened.

However, this facility could also not cope with the COVID-19 ablutions of the deceased, so through the generous donations received by Saaberie Chishty, a container was sponsored with the intention of converting it into a second ghusal khana at the Avalon Cemetery.

The container which was delivered on 15 July was sanded down and all amenities including plumbing, flooring and widows installed to make it a fully functional ghusal facility

Saaberie Chishty says the container ghusal khana complies with all regulations and stands adjacent to the current building that the Muslim community uses.

The organization has thanked Allah, the community and various donors and sponsors in bringing a mere concept to light.

Meanwhile, Saaberie Chishty’s Abu Sayed and Akhiel Osmany visited Radio Islam studios last week to share and explain the COVID-19 mayyit procedure.
