The Health Department has announced that the number of COVID-19 infections in South Africa has risen to 559,858.
This is an increase of 6,670 from Saturday’s announcement.
The number of deaths has also increased by 198 bringing the total to 10,408.
Gauteng has the most infections with 192,767 followed by Western Cape at 99,959, Eastern Cape at 82,401, KwaZulu-Natal 98,068, Free State 28,370, North West 21,837, Mpumalanga 19,239, Limpopo 10,546, Northern Cape 6,621 and unallocated infections 50.
The total number of recoveries to date is 411,147 which translates to a recovery rate of 73%.
Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize says the total number of COVID-19 tests conducted to date is 3,250,583 this is an increase of 30,318 which were done in the last 24 hours.
“Regrettably, we report a further 198 COVID-19 related deaths: 80 from Eastern Cape, 32 from Gauteng, 63 from KwaZulu Natal, 23 from Western Cape. This brings the cumulative number of deaths to 10,408.”
Mkhize has expressed his condolences to the affected families of those who have succumbed to the pandemic.
